Chicago Teacher Strikes

On Monday, Chicago school officials said they had nothing more to offer, so they all went on strike. Over 350,000 students were out of school on an unscheduled day off. It is Chicago's first teacher strike in 25 years that will go on to a second day, because of the absence of a deal. The police thought there would be much more trouble with the amount of kids out of school, so they pulled officers out of desk duty and got them on patrols. Many churches and other organizations tried to provide activities for the thousands of idle students. The union, involving nearly 30,000 teachers, arranged this strike because negotiators failed to reach an agreement after eight months. Depending on what happens Tuesday, it could go on for a third day.
